Politically, here in the United States, over the past few months, we have been engaged in an outrageous controversy on the heels of the confirmation of a Supreme Court Justice. As I listen to the news, read reports, and have conversations with other citizens, my heart is broken.
In the United States we have a policy of innocent until proven guilty. This policy is in place under the banner of justice. Yet, the very members of our government, and many citizens of our great country have put aside this fundamental principle, and rushed forward to make judgements without validating evidence through due process. My heart is broken over this very issue.
How did our country fall so far from our fundamental principles which were put in place to protect the citizens of this great Nation? An even greater concern for me, is to hear and be a witness to the horrendous display of hate and judgement being passed around without concern for the greater good of individuals or our Nation. My heart is broken over the selfishness such behavior represents.
In reflection, I could not help but examine my own heart. I ask you today, to do the same. Have you made up your mind on guilt or innocence on the behalf of Judge Kavanaugh? Have you made up your mind on the credibility of Dr. Ford? Both these questions warrant self reflection. In my humble opinion, both of these individuals have been caught in the tornado of politics. My heart breaks for them both.
Everything within me wants to scream… WHERE is the due process? Here in America, if someone accuses another of a crime, there is a process set forth in which such allegations can legally be investigated and tried. It is outrageous to witness what happened on Capitol Hill today. It was a mockery of our judicial system. Not to mention, a blatant misuse of power and public resources. My heart breaks for our country.
After listening to Dr. Ford’s testimony, it is apparent to me that she is being used as a pawn in a political game which she never intended to participate in. How is this being allowed to occur in our Nation? The treatment of Judge Kavanaugh can be summed up as ‘bullying’ at the highest level possible. My heart breaks for the outright disregard for the laws of our country, by the very people who were elected to uphold them.
I take comfort in the fact that we serve a God who is just! When times like this arise, I take refuge in His loving arms. I hold fast to what I know to be true and trustworthy. God instructs us to forgive, yet we live in a world who desires revenge. God tells us to love our enemies when those leading our country demonstrate less than honorable respect for those they serve. God tells us to put others before ourselves, yet in today’s society it appears more and more that selfishness rules. Each and every day we have choices to make…which path are you choosing to follow? My heart is broken that we as a nation, as well as world wide, have fallen so far below the bar of respect and honor for one another.
It is my desire for this unfortunate situation to stir up the hearts of people to take action against politics as usual! We are better than this! My passion is for people to rise above the status quo, to honestly examine their hearts and to speak out in favor of justice and not personal agendas. I do believe every person has the ability to think outside of themselves and see the greater good. Whether or not people will make that choice is one in which every soul must wrestle.
My heart is broken for the parties involved in this deplorable act of injustice that was on display today. I pray for those in authority to be convicted of any motives other than truth and justice. May God’s peace guard the hearts of all parties involved. May God’s people pray for peace and unity in our country. Let us be mindful that both parties involved are people just as you and I, who are worthy of love and respect.

May God bless America!

I welcome your comments…
I totally agree with your thoughts and statements. My heart is broken too and although I agree that Dr. Ford is being used a pawn my heart breaks more for Judge Kavanaugh. What this man has been put through is a disgrace. Satan has reared his head in the hatred and injustice that has been thrown at him. I believe God is on his side. I believe God has given Judge Kavanaugh the strength to still be standing.
Thanks for sharing your heart with us! Please continue to pray…we need God to reign in the hearts of the people of our Nation!
Blessings

Lucy Ann is my daughter. And I have just finished writing in my own journal , not realizing my daughter has just written her feelings about what has happened in our country today. I to feel it is a disgrace that our country has to see such a debate. Not only for us but for other countries and leaders to see.thru misery which will last a life time. But with God’s help he and his family will overcome this.Dr. Ford, will hopefully learn that in our country truth, justice and respect will prevail over selfishness and laws of our country will be upheld.God watch over and protect our country. God Bless America
Mom,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! I love that you journaled about these events. Yes… we certainly need to be crying out to God for our country.
Love you,
Lucy Ann
Yes, Lucy Ann, heartbroken that our culture has turned so ugly. In October, Mark Taylor’s film “the Trump Prophecy” will come out. Perhaps some will finally wake up and see that God has done this… not because of the character of Pres. Trump, but because of a greater purpose. He also has a purpose for this next Supreme Court Justice, Judge Kavanaugh or another. My biggest problem is my lack of love for the hateful people who do not agree with me. I look into their contorted faces, see their deception and I do not love my enemies. Lord, change me.
Jeanne,
Thank you for your honest reply. I know you are not alone. Many struggle with the same emotions. Following the example of Jesus is becoming more difficult each day. Yet… we do not fight this good fight of faith alone. The Holy Spirit is within to equip us, and God’s grace will see us through. I pray for God to strengthen us all as we yield to His ways!!! Love ALWAYS WINS!!! He is faithful.
Blessings,
Lucy Ann
Lucy Ann, I love that you are a part of my life and that you shared with all of us about your broken heart. My heart is broken as well. After watching the confirmation circus I am reminded of the saying, “Sticks and stones can break my bones but, WORDS will never hurt me”. What we saw was a multitude of words that were oh so hurtful. They were twisted and poisonous, meant to destroy. What we saw was an open display of how our words can be used to bring death or bring life. God’s kingdom is Righteousness, Peace, and Joy in the Holy Spirit. Father, thank You for showing us how far we have fallen. Forgive us, Lord for allowing our hearts to be callous and hard and our words to bring evil.
Hello Marie,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!
I stand in the gap with you and petition God to have mercy on our country. May God forgive us for the irresponsible way we choose to use our words,
for tearing down rather than building up. Father bring healing to our country by the power of your Spirit. May hearts be opened to the truth that words
are powerful and need to be used for good. Protect the hearts to which destructive words were spoken, and inundate their hearts with your peace.
Blessings my friend,
Lucy Ann
God bless you so much we are blessed and still blessed our precious pastor .
