January 6, 2021 how will you remember it?
The news media and the politicians have publicly made their opinions known— it wasn’t a pretty sight. If you ended your day listening to or watching any of the happenings being broadcasted across the airways and social media, or if you were anywhere near the Washington DC area, things looked dark and bleak. But then, as I headed to bed, I looked outside and saw the beauty that consumed the sky…the star lit sky was spectacular. Immediately, I had a perspective shift.
I am not dismissing the fact that our nation, the USA, needs to be healed. We certainly need to find unity and solid ground on which to move forward as a country. Nonetheless, as I looked into the vast beauty surrounding me last night—I saw hope. Immediately a scripture came to mind, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things (Philippians 4:8). We have a choice.
We can label January 6th, 2021 as a dark day in history, or we can remind ourselves to think about all that is worthy of our attention. In the midst of the political chaos of the day, last night, I was reminded of the beauty that exist around us if we choose to have eyes to see it. I have lived long enough to see the good in the hearts of the American people–people just like you and me. Perhaps its buried under pain, heartache, disappointment, and fear, nonetheless, it’s there.
After seeing the shinning stars light up the sky, even though darkness covered the land—I was reminded that God’s mercies are new every morning, In the midst of darkness light shines brightly. No matter how dark things appeared yesterday, daylight came this morning—it’s a new day.
My dear friends, we have a choice as to what will we do with the time we are given today and in the days to come. Will we continue to feed into the world of darkness—hatred and disunity? Or will we choose to allow the light within us to brighten the world around us?
There is hope for America, our families, and our communities. So many are looking to the government to right the wrongs, yet, you and I have the power within to do so every day. The power lies within the choices we make with our words and actions. We are called to be the light in the darkness, the salt that sweetens the earth. Let the healing being with us.
Pray for God’s peace upon the earth…and let’s do our part to bring that to pass. Who’s in?
