If asked, most people would say they have a dream. A dream for a career, marriage, family, a personal goal, or a world wide vision. It is easy to dream, but far more costly to see that dream through to fruition. Achieving any dream will cost you. Fulfilling your purpose in everyday life will cost you. It is imperative for you to be ready to pay the price for your dreams/desires to become reality. Rest assured… it will cost you.
We can look back in History and explore any great achievement and see that it took sacrifice. Surrender of time, and resources. On many occasions the price was ‘life‘ itself. Anything worth pursuing will cost you! How committed are you? Will you proceed regardless of the cost?
Commitment means different things for different people, yet it need not be this way. Either you are devoted or you are not. I realize it may not be as black and white as it sounds, but let’s not sugar coat the truth. In order to fulfill your purpose you must be honest with yourself and with God. God is committed to you, He is all in, He has supplied all that is necessary for you to be all that He has created you to be, and His commitment to you came with a hefty price tag. Regardless, He stayed the course until the mission was accomplished. What about you? Do you have that same tenacity in your own life?
A Dream will remain merely an aspiration, unless action is taken, unless the cost is paid. No matter how far you attempt to run from God’s perfect design for your life, you will never be content. You were created with a design and purpose in mind (Psalms 139:13). God has deposited within you all that is necessary to walk in the fullness of His perfect design for your life, and He has placed within you the ability to pay the price!
Let’s examine a few of the major barriers which can cause you to decide… the cost is too high.
- Opposition:
- Opposition will cause the road ahead to look rough. The storm has hit… leaving major destruction in its path, and you want to give up. Do not succumb to opposition. You are more than a conqueror through Christ who strengthens you (Romans 8:37).
- Fear:
- Fear always screams; ‘the price is too high’. When victory appears to cost you more than you planned, more time, more resources, more strength, this is NOT the time to back off. It is in these moments when victory is at hand. Do not allow fear to cause you to fall short of the finish line. Push ahead, God is rooting for you (Isaiah 41:10). Be encouraged God will supply all your needs (Philippians 4:19). Do not be fearful
- Appearances:
- Appearances can be deceiving. When you begin to measure your progress in light of others, you will get off course. Most often you have no idea what another person has paid for their apparent success. The accomplishment of others may present as though it came with little effort, do not be fooled… reality is, everyone has to pay the price to bring their dreams into existence. Keep your eyes focused on the race you are running (Philippians 3:14).
- Insecurity:
- The moment you decide to move forward, to fulfill your purpose, to pay the cost, insecurity will raise it’s destructive head! You will feel unworthy of the calling, you will convince yourself you are not equipped to carry out the mission, and you will use any excuse to withdraw your offer to pay the price. Defeat insecurity by leaning on God’s strength and wisdom and not your own (2Corinthians 12: 9-11). Without God you can do nothing (Psalm 16:2), but with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believed on him would have everlasting life (John 3:16). WOW…that was costly! That is true commitment! Will you submit to God’s love and His plans for your life? He desires to work His purposes in and through you. You will uncover purpose in your everyday life as you overcome opposition, resist fear, face the truth about appearances, and break through insecurities with courage.
God’s plans for your life far exceed anything you can dream or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
Uncovering purpose in your everyday life will cost you…
