Everyday, no matter where we live in the world, we have choices to make. Our schedules are jammed pack with commitments. Just think about the number of things you say ‘yes ’ to in a day; many times, without giving much thought to your response. How does responding ‘yes’ push you over the edge on your already overloaded schedule? Learning when to say ‘yes’ and when to say ‘no’ is a valuable lesson, especially while attempting to keep the important things a priority in our lives. Although this topic warrants a deeper dive, today, I want to focus on the one thing that should be a definite ‘yes’ in our everyday life; Surrendering our will to the will of God. This is a definite ‘yes’ everyday.
Often, as Christians, we take for granted God’s commitment to us, while we give little to no credence to our end of the deal. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are saying ‘yes’ to surrendering our hearts to Him. Our hearts, in the hands of God, will bring transformation in every area of our lives; Mainly, our will. Let me explain. God has ensured we know what his will is, He has given us His word and His Spirit. In order for us to submit to God’s way of doing things we need to know what is in His word, and be sensitive to the voice of His Spirit.
Saying ‘yes’ to reading God’s word is not an option for the Christian. The world is a war zone, and without the proper battle gear we will be worn down and taken out at every turn. Our battles are fought in the spirit realm (Ephesians 6:12), with the word of God as our sword. The problem arises when we do not know what God’s word says, therefore, we are fighting unequipped.
Attending church service once, even twice a week, does not prepare you for the battles you will face every day. Reading God’s word each day will position you for victory in life. Yes, you will encounter fights, however, when we fight His way, we fight from a position of victory. Jesus already paid the price for our win. Our responsibility is to stand strong on His word, use faith as our shield, and swing our sword at every move of the evil one. We also have the power, and authority, to come to the aid of others who are in a fight, and be the help they desperately need.
Being a ‘good person’ without the standard of God’s word as your judge, is leaving you open for battles that can literally take you out. Statistics from Baylor Religious Surveys indicates; 69% of church goers believe that everyone will go to heaven. This simply is not a biblical truth. Nor can you earn your way to heaven, as some 77% of all Americans believe (according to the State of American Theology, Lifeway research done in 2016). The enemy is taking pleasure in devouring people, simply because they are ignorant of their power. Our defense is knowing the word of God.
Say ‘yes’ today, and commit to reading God’s word. If you have never read/studied the bible, it is the most amazing book ever written. Those who say the bible is boring, are not reading it under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Before you begin to read, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truths within each sentence, you will be amazed at what you discover. God’s word is a gift which we can upack everyday. It holds wisdom for everyday life on each of its pages. If you are skilled at reading your bible, continue to read, God wants to take you even deeper into His truths.
Look at the world around us, it is in chaos. There are people in your immediate influence who need to hear the life transformational message of the gospel. The world is in a love deficit, and Christians are the answer. Let us step up to the call of the great commission; “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15 KJV). If you are under the assumption this command is only for preachers and missionaries, you are mistaken. This is a command that Jesus himself gave to his disciples. If you are a Christian, you are a disciple of Jesus Christ, and this command is for you.
Don’t panic! You are equipped. Share what you know now, share the love of God, share your testimony. You know more than others who do not know God at all. Start somewhere and begin to share your faith. Read your bible, you will learn quickly the will of God. Be sure to implement it in your own life, then share the good news with the world around you.
Jesus demonstrated the ultimate gift of love, “While we were yet sinners, He died for us” (Romans 5:8). That is a love worth living for, and a love worth sharing!
