I took a moment this morning during my prayer time to write in my journal, this is a discipline I’ve developed years ago and it has proven to be a blessing in my life. Today was one of those days when I looked back and read some of my prior entries. As I was doing so a particular phrase jumped out at me—Miracle in Motion. I stopped and wrote it down again today. As I was writing I had this thought, “everyone has the power to be a miracle in motion if we choose to be”.
It is easy to think of a miracle as being a supernatural or extraordinary event that surpasses all human ability, and this is true—it can be. There are many accounts recorded in the bible of the miraculous things that happened. However, today, I want to offer another perspective on this word. One, which brings the miracle status into our everyday lives.
It is easy to envision Jesus doing miracles, opening blind eyes, and raising the dead to life, speaking to a storm and calming the wind and waves. These are truly examples of miracles. Yet, miracles happen every day and we often miss them. How sad is it to miss out on witnessing a miracle? Worse yet, how sad would it be to miss out on being part of a miracle? (After all, the Inn Keeper missed out on housing the King of Kings. He was unaware of what God was doing in the midst of his everyday life.) Luke 2:7
You may be thinking that only super-spiritual human beings have the ability to bring a miracle to pass. I want to challenge your thinking and hopefully open your heart and mind to see things differently.
First off, if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you have the power within to cause supernatural things to take place. Whether you access that power is discussion for another post, but for today, I want to stay focused on everyday miracles that we can be sure to embrace.
Let me explain. A few days ago, unbeknown to me, I was an answer someone else’s prayers. In their words, “This is a Christmas Miracle.” I recall replying, “how cool is this, I get to be a part of a miracle”. To me it didn’t seem like anything outside of the ordinary, however, I was clueless to the prayers they had been praying and specifically asking God to bring to pass. Yet, I was blessed to be the one who got to bring forth their miracle. What a humbling experience.
I am purposely sharing this story without many details because it’s very personal and special to me, and I want to keep it that way. However, I can use this experience to encourage you—you too are a miracle in motion. Any day, at any time, God can use you to bring a miracle to pass in someone’s life. The only prerequisite is an openness to be led by God’s Spirit. The rewards stretch far beyond what you can dream or imagine.
I hear many people say, “I want to be used by God”. What they are implying is their desire to do something big, make an impact in the lives of others, and leave a mark on humanity. What if being used by God was a simple task—a phone call to someone who desperately feels lonely though you had no idea what they were going through. What if a miracle looked like dropping off some groceries, baked goods, or a thoughtful card, on the doorstep of a family member or friend. You and I are clueless to the reality behind the mask people wear everyday.
2020 has been a year like no other. People are hurting in ways we may never know—but God does. He hears every prayer spoken, He sees every tear that falls, and He is there in the restlessness of the long night hours. His heart is to restore, and refresh the hearts of people. How does He do this everyday? He uses people like you and me who are merely going about our daily routines to divert course and follow His lead.
The next time you feel a nudge to do something that was not on your to-do-list, stop and ask God if He is the one prompting you. He may be positioning you to be the answer to someone’s prayers.
Christmas is all about sharing the love, joy, and peace that comes from knowing Christ. For some, 2020 is a year they quickly want to forget. What if…you had the ability to help them see the good in this year? What if…you had the ability to lighten the load they are carrying? What if…you could spread the Christmas cheer in a tangible, practical way? What if…you could be a Miracle in Motion?
Reflection:
Are you open to being re-directed by the Holy Spirit to bring Christmas joy to someone this season? Don’t be caught off guard like the Inn Keeper—always leave a place in your heart to be a conduit of the love of God.
